What is a Provincial Nominee Program (PNP)?

This program is for workers who:

  • have the skills, education and work experience to contribute to the economy of a specific province or territory

  • want to live in that province, and

  • want to become permanent residents of Canada

Each province and territory has its own “streams” (immigration programs that target certain groups) and requirements. For example, in a program stream, provinces and territories may target:

  • students

  • business people

  • skilled workers

  • semi-skilled workers

The program is designed to help provinces target market shortages that Canadians are unable to fill, and help increase their populations with desired immigrants.
As part of the process, you must obtain a police check (certificate) as well as a medical exam. This is mandatory for every program and all permanent residency applications.
Each province has its own nomination program and its own application system. It is highly recommended to consult a professional to help you navigate this extremely large network of streams with unique application processes.

It is noteworthy to mention that the provincial nomination programs provide a nomination in which the applicant must then go back to apply through the federal system. It is not a program that provides permanent residency directly.

Each province below has its own programs of Priority Occupations, Canadian Experience Class Immigration as well as Express Entry applicants.

The eligibility criteria can vary and change without notice by province and territory.
