Family Sponsorship. What is it?
Reuniting Families has been one of the core goals of the current Canadian Government. One way to do this is through sponsoring a member of your family
You can sponsor a relative as long as you are:
18 Years or Older
A Canadian Citizen or,
A Permanent Resident of Canada or,
A person registered in Canada as an Indian under the Canadian Indian Act
Sponsoring a relative grants them permanent residency in Canada, which will allow them to reside, study, and work.
Who can I sponsor?
You are able to sponsor if you are eligible or under certain conditions:
Spouse
Common-law Partner / Conjugal Partner
Parents / Grandparents
Dependent Children / Adopted Children
Other Relatives

What are the Requirements for the Sponsor?
The sponsor must meet the following requirements in order to sponsor a family member:
Be a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident or A registered Indian in Canada
Must be at least 18 years old
For Permanent Residents or as a Registered Indian, they must be residing in Canada during the time of the application.
A Canadian Citizen must show their intent to reside in Canada upon approval of the sponsorship Application
If required, must provide evidence that they will be able to financially support their family member and dependents
Must enter into an ‘Undertaking’ with the Canadian Government, indicating their financial responsibilities for a set amount of time of the applicant and their dependents. The agreement length varies by which family member is being sponsored.
Must not be in the process of a Bankruptcy hearing or have declared bankruptcy.
Must not be in prison
Must not be receiving social assistance excluding disability assistance.
